Telecommunications Disaster Resilience Innovation (TDRI)

The Telecommunications Disaster Resilience Innovation program promotes the development of new technologies to provide solutions and improvement for telecommunications resilience, particularly in our regional, remote and First Nations communities. It forms part of the Australian Government's Better Connectivity Plan for Regional and Rural Australia.


Under the Power Resilience Round, Indara secured funding and strengthened seven critical telecommunications sites serving regional, rural, remote and First Nations communities through its Regional Power Protection Project, which utilised solar power resilience solutions that offset existing AC supplies.


Each site also includes a permanent generator, with the Broken Hill site further supported by battery storage. This approach improves operability during outages while reducing reliance on conventional power sources and demonstrates how lower emission solutions can be embedded into practical resilience planning for critical infrastructure. The project is expected to reduce Indara’s carbon footprint by approximately 40% on these locations' sites, or around 60 tonnes of CO₂ per year.
